Developing Your True Inner Self

It is almost second nature to worry about what other people think, say and do but this diverts our attention away from developing our true self within. The more you worry outside of yourself the farther you are from yourself.  A true breakthrough happens when you lose interest in interpreting the thoughts and actions of others and you begin to reflect inward versus outward.   Breakthrough goals: Gain the ability to love without expecting anything in return.  A tendency to think act spontaneously rather than from fears from past experiences.  An increased tendency to let things happen versus making things happen.  Dr. Cory Couillard is an international healthcare speaker and columnist for numerous newspapers, magazines, websites and publications throughout the world. Extra weight tied to breast cancer

Obesity, physical inactivity and being overweight account for more than 88,000 breast cancer deaths each year. Studies show 19 percent of breast cancer deaths are attributed to increased weight. Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, claiming 7.6 million people each year according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Over 40 percent of all cancer can be prevented and some of the most common cancers – including breast, colorectal and cervical – are curable if detected early. According to WHO, 84 million people will die in the next 10 years if action is not taken. About 70 percent of all cancer deaths occur in low- to- middle-income countries and are projected to continue to rise. Cancer is Largely Avoidable Cancer prevention is an essential component in the fight against cancer. Unfortunately, many cost-effective prevention measures such as anti-tobacco campaigns and comprehensive diet and exercise strategies have yet to

Belly fat increases diabetes risk

A prominent, 17-year study of about 30,000 middle-aged people found belly fat to be a leading cause of type 2 diabetes .  Waist size and one’s body mass index (BMI) has also been previously linked to the increased risk of high blood pressure , clogging of the arteries and heart attack.  Researchers have found waist size to be more useful than BMI in predicting diabetes. Obesity is a well-known risk factor for diabetes, but these findings will help identify high-risk individuals who—though not obese—are still vulnerable to the condition because of large amounts of midsection fat.  BMI is a ratio of an individual’s height to weight.  This system has been under question as it fails to distinguish muscle from body fat and most importantly where the fat is located in the body.  Waist circumference measures the amount of belly fat and how it is distributed throughout the body.  Excess Belly Fat & Organs Belly fat is a direct reflecti

Solving Lifestyle Induced Asthma

It is now estimated that 235 million people of all ages, and all ethnic backgrounds, suffer from asthma globally. The burden of this disease is substantial to governments, health care systems, families and patients. Appropriate lifestyle modifications will not only prevent asthma but will also reduce its occurrence and improve one’s quality of life. It is estimated that the effects of asthma accounts for 1 in every 250 deaths worldwide. Many of the deaths are preventable and treatable with improving access to healthcare services and avoiding the most common triggers.  Education and public awareness is the first line of defense that can save millions of lives.  This devastating condition is becoming much more common in all ages but the greatest increase has been seen in children.  Asthma occurs in all countries regardless of the level of development but over 80% of asthma deaths occur in low-to-middle income countries according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Foodborne Disease Epidemic

Food-related disease kills millions of people throughout the world every year.  More than 200 diseases are known to be spread through food.  This alarming fact has caused food safety to become a major public health priority.  Serious outbreaks of foodborne disease have been documented on every continent in the past decade according to the World Health Organization (WHO).   Diarrheal diseases alone will kill an estimated 1.5 million children in low-to-middle income countries.   Most of these illnesses are attributed to contaminated food or water. Proper food handling and preparation can prevent most foodborne diseases. New diseases tied to food According to WHO, about 75% of the new infectious diseases affecting humans over the past 10 years were caused by bacteria, viruses and other pathogens that started in animals and animal products.  A critical evaluation is underway to improve the standards from slaughter houses to food markets.  The most common foods at risk incl

30 Day Weight Loss Challenge

The next 30 days can and will transform your life, if you let it.  The goal of the 30 day challenge is to not only to change and improve your diet, but also implement other healthy lifestyle factors as well.  We will encourage you to participate in an exercise programme and visit the website frequently to get diet and fitness tips. The dietary plan is primarily for those with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, weight loss resistance, metabolic conditions such as thyroid disorders and even those with cancer.  It is important to note that the 30 day challenge is not a treatment for a condition; it’s an overall health improvement. Chronic disease has been linked to irritation and inflammation of the body.  The primary dietary contributor to systemic inflammation is sugar.  Eliminating sugar is the primary goal of the 30 day challenge.  Eliminating sugar will reduce inflammation and allow the body to heal better.  We have many patients
